Poll: Majority of Maine Voters Favor Marijuana Legalization Measure

Maine Marijuana Industry

A new poll conducted by University of New Hampshire shows that a majority of Maine voters want legalized recreational marijuana. The newest numbers released show that 53 percent of Maine voters would approve legal recreational marijuana. The market is projected to produce $15 million in annual tax revenue.

The opposition is planning to step up their campaign efforts as the election draws closer, according to WCSH. The medical marijuana community in Maine has mixed feelings about recreational marijuana. SJR labs hopes to bring more jobs to Maine if the ballot measure passes.

Yes on 1 campaign spokesperson Alysia Melnick said, “We’re excited about the polling, and it affirms what we’ve been hearing from people across the state. Mainers are ready for this.”

SJR labs partner Joel P said, “We could go from six employees to double or triple that if this passes. It will give us the chance to develop a business plan five, ten years out. Currently we’re not confident doing that.”
