Money is flowing towards marijuana in Maine. The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol in Maine has raised 26 times more funding than those opposing marijuana legalization. Question 1 will be on November’s ballot for voters to decide whether to legalize recreational marijuana.
Rick Steves has personally donated $50,000 to Maine’s legalization efforts and has also promised to match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000 more, according to Portland Press Herald.
The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol reportedly raised $1.3 million this year. A large portion was from a Washington, D.C. based political action committee.
The opposition reports having raised just $50,861 in their efforts to trump Question 1. $50,000 of this donation money came from The Alliance for Healthy Marijuana Policy of Alexandria, Virginia.
Marijuana Policy Project donated $36,000 donations to assist with staff payroll and polling. The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol has spent $590,000 on television advertisements alone.
