Pro-Marijuana Group Raises 26 Times More Money Than Opponents

Maine Marijuana

Money is flowing towards marijuana in Maine. The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol in Maine has raised 26 times more funding than those opposing marijuana legalization. Question 1 will be on November’s ballot for voters to decide whether to legalize recreational marijuana.

Rick Steves has personally donated $50,000 to Maine’s legalization efforts and has also promised to match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000 more, according to Portland Press Herald.

The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol reportedly raised $1.3 million this year. A large portion was from a Washington, D.C. based political action committee.

The opposition reports having raised just $50,861 in their efforts to trump Question 1. $50,000 of this donation money came from The Alliance for Healthy Marijuana Policy of Alexandria, Virginia.

Marijuana Policy Project donated $36,000 donations to assist with staff payroll and polling. The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol has spent $590,000 on television advertisements alone.
